The Challenges of Living With An ASD

Living with any form of Autism Spectrum Disorder is not always an easy thing. Like with anything medical, you have good days and bad days. Over time, you learn to manage it, and deal with your most pressing symptoms, but your ASD will always be something you just have to live with.

I myself live with Asperger’s Syndrome and have been doing so officially for over a year. The past year since my diagnosis has been perhaps one of the best of my life. I feel lighter and happier than I have in a long time, I’ve met so many amazing people that I never would have met had I not been diagnosed, and I’ve discovered so much about myself and what I am capable of.

On September 23rd, we are excited to annouce our Anxiety Workshop with Naturopathic Doctor and Registered Nurse Yasmin Snippe. Join us at the centre on this date for a workshop that is free of charge and that will cover the Naturopathic Approach to treating anxiety. The workshop will be set up as an open discussion so attendees will have a chance to share and ask questions. 


Time: 6:30pm – 8pm

Dealing With Late Diagnosis

I was almost exactly a month away from my eighteenth birthday when I received a diagnosis that I never expected: Asperger’s Syndrome.

It was an accepted fact amongst my family and the rest of my inner circle that I had Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or OCD. After all, I had all of the classic signs: from my distaste for sudden change, to my incessant habit of collecting everything that interests me, to my compulsive need to write lists. If there were a list that doctor’s used in diagnosing someone with OCD, I’d have checked off every box. In fact, I’m pretty sure that, even today, I still would.
