October: "What's after Hello?" Social Coach Alana Shields Barker gives participants tips and exercises to help with meeting others for the first time.

  • Manage your worry and anxiety about meeting new people
  • Focus on the other person
  • Ensure that you give a positive first impression
  • Have strategies to manage the unexpected

Come and enjoy an interactive two hour session to strengthen your first meeting skills!

Post-Secondary Blues

If you are attending college or university and find yourself overwhelmed with the assignments and workload, this weekly workshop is for you! The focus will be on getting organized through prioritizing and planning a study schedule with you. We will teach you how to avoid the post-secondary blues!

October: Calling all Georgian, Laurentian and Lakehead Students with an ASD!! Every Thursdayafternoon will offer a two hour block to assist you with time management and generally manage the increased demands and expectations of the college/university setting.

Time: 2:00-4:00

Cost: $100.00 (minimum 5 people)

Monthly Pizza and Games Night:

Stay Calm and Carry On

Living an active lifestyle promotes physical and mental health and can decrease stress and anxiety considerably. Each monthly workshop will introduce new strategies and activities incorporate into your emotional toolbox that will help you stay calm and carry on.

October: Develop an understanding of anxiety and learn skills that will teach you how to keep yourself in a calm state, and begin a daily practice that will help you regulate your anxiety. Each session will include discussion, movement, and breathing with guided meditation practices. Individuals will be able to develop the skills to regulate emotional challenges they face at home, work or in life.

Questions to be answered:

  1. What is anxiety and how does it affect me?
  2. Where am I on the anxiety scale?
  3. What can I do to keep myself calm?
  4. How do I maintain this level of calm throughout the day/life?

Movements follow the practices of Yoga, Qigong and breathe movement practice.

Breathing includes belly breathing and coherent breathing with guided meditation.

Time 10:00am - 12:00am

Cost: $150.00 (Minimum 5 participants) for 4 sessions.

Exploring the Artist Within

Here’s to discovering what creative outlet inspires you! Drawing, writing, sketching, painting, origami, making music or a video, pottery, photography, knitting, quilting are only a few ways to express you. You don’t have to create a masterpiece to enjoy the creation of something original. Each month will provide an opportunity to explore the artist within.

October: Come and discover your creative self by learning how to paint. This program will teach the basics of painting with watercolours. Your final project will be an individual piece of art for your personal art gallery!

Time: 2:00 - 4:00

Cost: $130.00 (Including materials) for 4 sessions

Do you really want to live as independently as possible? Well living without parents means you have to learn to do things on your own. Each month will teach and practice the life skills necessary to prepare you. Budgeting, banking, cooking, cleaning, laundry, making appointments, and learning how to take public transit are some of the areas that will be addressed in this monthly workshop.

October: Learning to cook is a step by step process and this month you will learn to choose simple recipes, make grocery lists, grocery shop and make some delicious and nutritious meals. If you like to eat well but need a little help getting organized this series of workshops is for you!

Time: 10:00 - 12:00

Cost: $150.00 (Including ingredients for recipes and food weekly!) for 4 sessions

Building a strong foundation, gaining experience in the workplace and preparing for the job search are all important parts of getting a job. This monthly workshop will focus on helping you prepare for this important event through a series of interactive activities.

October: This month is all about job readiness skills. Let’s work on getting prepared to enter the work force by looking at some first steps. Have you got any experience in the workplace? Do you know your strengths and challenges? Do you have a resume and do you know how to write a cover letter and make out applications for a job? Do you know how to search for a job?

Time 2:00 - 4:00

Cost: $100.00 for 4 sessions.

The Spectrum Connection

The Spectrum Connection is a group of young adults with Asperger Syndrome/HFA, aged 18-28, who get together monthly for a social outing. The number of participants varies but averages 8-10 people. Activities are chosen and sometimes organized by group members and have involved: bowling, supper out, beach outings, a pool party, mini-putt, go-carting, board game nights, and trips to Wasaga Beach, Canada’s Wonderland and Ripley’s Aquarium in Toronto. Members often get together for additional social opportunities between outings.

Integrated Autism Consulting is available to support and facilitate but all individuals must be able to attend the event independently.
